Rehearsals for our Summer Concert start on Tuesday 26 April at Shirley Methodist Church with guest conductor Richard Jenkinson. The concert focuses on the links between European and black American music in the early 20th century.
The programme features works by Edward Elgar and Frederick Delius, who was born in Bradford, but spent several years in the USA. As the concert coincides with the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, we will also be playing the Prelude and Les Chassereuses from Sylvia by Leo Delibes. The concert concludes with the African-American Folk Symphony by William Dawson, written in 1935, the same year as both Edward Elgar and Frederick Delius died.
The concert will be on Saturday 2 July at 19:30 in Shirley Methodist Church. Tickets will be available in a few weeks time.
