Rising Stars 2006

Rehearsals are under way for Solihull Symphony Orchestra's Rising Stars Concert, to be held at Arden School, Knowle on Sunday 26 February. The concert, which is an annual event, provides an opportunity for promising young local musicians to play a movement from a concerto with a full orchestra.

Philippa Gibb (bottom left) who is studying at Solihull School will be playing Mozart's Andate for flute. Emma Geddes (bottom right), is a member of the horn section of the orchestra and a student at Kings Norton Girls School will be playing Mozart's Horn Concerto No 3. Ben Westlake (top right) who has a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music Junior School and is a member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra will be playing Spohr's Clarinet Concerto No 2. Finally, Daniel Todd (top left) who is currently studying at Solihull 6th Form College will play Elgar's Cello Concerto.

Conductor Martin Leigh said, "We are fortunate to have such a splendid array of local talent for this event - and the two Mozart concertos will be a suitable way for Solihull to celebrate his 250th anniversary". He added "The orchestra always welcomes new members, young or old - currently we are very keen to find a few more violinists!"

The concert, which is an informal, family occasion will start at 15.00. Tickets are available from the orchestra website , or from the Solihull Box Office (0121 704 6962). The orchestra is sponsored by the Solihull Rotary Clubs. Further details on membership are also available on the website or from 0121 745 5548.
